The Post-“DeKalb County Tax and Tag Office on Dresden Drive may be moving”

The DeKalb County Tax and Tag Office on Dresden Drive may soon be moving to a new location, but sources tell The Post, it likely won’t be moving very far away. DeKalb County may utilize some of its land in the same vicinity as the North DeKalb Health Center on Clairmont Rd., most likely at the corner of Clairmont Rd. and W. Hardee Avenue – across Clairmont Rd. from Brookhaven’s Georgian Hills Park.
Our sources tell us that local developer CONNOLLY, who is working through the process of bringing a new mixed use development to Dresden Dr. called Dresden Village, is working with the County on the plans. The Dresden Village project utilizes the current Tag Office parcel.
CONNOLLY is also the developer of the Parkview on Peachtree project in Chamblee.
The moving of the Tag Office away from Dresden Dr. is expected to relieve some traffic congestion caused by daytime visitors. However, any reduction in “trips-per-day” traffic that may be realized with the Tag Office moving elsewhere, may be offset by new development. To further complicate the traffic calculation conversation for the Dresden Drive corridor, one must not forget the potential impact the looming Brookhaven MARTA Transit Oriented Development will have.
One other place we are told is in play for a relocated Tag Office is a County owned parcel along Savoy Dr. While nothing is final at this point, credible sources tell us the Clairmont Rd. location is the County’s first choice for the new DeKalb County Tax and Tag Office.
More, as we learn more.
